Founded in memory of Andrea Key, Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour Charity (YBTC) has spent over two decades providing expert, compassionate support to people across Yorkshire affected by brain tumours. Through peer networks, wellbeing events, and financial help, they’re there for families when it matters most. YBTC also funds ground-breaking research in Yorkshire, helping to address one of the most underfunded and devastating cancers in the UK today.
Brinsley Animal Rescue is a passionate, volunteer-led charity in Nottinghamshire that offers a lifeline to neglected, injured, and unwanted animals. From ex-farm animals and abandoned pets to injured wildlife, they provide specialist care, rehabilitation, and safe sanctuary. Every animal receives compassion and a second chance, thanks to the team’s tireless efforts and support from their community of animal lovers and advocates.
Howarths Foundation tackles homelessness in Yorkshire through training, mentorship, and employment opportunities. Their “Business Building Futures” programme helps individuals rebuild their lives by fostering independence and reducing stigma. Donations support vital services like housing advice and job training, creating hope and dignity for vulnerable people.
Dronfield First Responders are trained volunteers who provide life-saving care during medical emergencies like cardiac arrests and strokes. Working with East Midlands Ambulance Service, they respond quickly within their community, often arriving before ambulances. Equipped with defibrillators and oxygen, their swift actions improve survival rates and reduce complications. Relying on donations, they play a vital role in supporting the NHS and safeguarding Dronfield residents.
Fairplay supports children and young people with disabilities and additional needs, and their families, across North Derbyshire. Operating from a purpose-built centre in Chesterfield with 1.6 acres of garden space, Fairplay offers services like play schemes, youth clubs, activity days, and family trips. With a team of 80 staff, they currently support over 400 families, providing both respite and opportunities for children to develop life skills through flexible, child-centred care.
Babbington Dog Rescue provides a safe haven for stray and abandoned dogs. With a non-destruction policy, they’ve rehomed nearly 10,000 dogs, averaging over 600 adoptions annually. Their commitment ensures each dog receives proper care and finds a loving home.
Stairfoot Foodbank is a crucial resource in Barnsley, providing emergency food parcels to individuals and families facing financial hardship. Serving up to 147 people weekly, it operates entirely through dedicated volunteers who also conduct fundraising activities like car boot sales and coffee mornings to raise funds for purchasing non-donated food items.
Ben’s Den is a charity founded in memory of Ben Parker, who battled leukaemia from a young age until his passing in 2003. Established by his parents in March 2004, the charity offers families of children with cancer or leukaemia free holidays in specially adapted caravans. It aims to provide these families with much-needed breaks away from hospital settings.
Walking 4 hope is a charity that supports families and young people who find it difficult to deal with the pressures that day to day life presents, including those experiencing or at risk of poor mental health. They provide recreational/leisure time activities in the interest of social welfare, and offer practical advice, support and signposting to other organisations when required. They also educate the wider public on mental health through the distribution of material produced by expert organisations.
The money raised through donations to The Children’s Hospital Charity supports specialist treatment from head to toe, by funding life-saving equipment, new facilities, a comfortable environment and vital research at Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, which changes paediatric care for thousands of children from across the world.
