Treetops Hospice provides expert, compassionate palliative care in Derbyshire for people at the end of life and those supporting them. Based in Risley, it serves communities across central and southern Derbyshire. Treetops has grown beyond direct patient care to become a nationally recognised authority in palliative care education and bereavement therapy. Its mission is straightforward: to make every day count for patients and families living with life-limiting illness, or affected by death and dying.
Treetops delivers care in several ways. Clinical nurses support patients in the community, visiting people at home when they need it most. At its Risley site, Treetops runs wellbeing cafés and drop-in sessions, giving people a space to ask questions and access support at any stage of their illness. For those dealing with bereavement, Treetops offers counselling and emotional support, including specialist provision for children. Its education programme is extensive, covering communication skills, symptom management, and bereavement training for health and social care workers, counsellors, schools, and members of the public. Courses are delivered both face-to-face and online.
The value Treetops offers extends well beyond individual patients. By training care home staff, school counsellors, and NHS professionals, the hospice improves end-of-life care across a wide network, reaching people far beyond those it supports directly. Public-facing resources, including free booklets on planning ahead and what to do when someone dies, give communities practical tools to navigate some of life’s most difficult moments. This combination of direct care, community outreach, and professional education means Treetops has a presence at every stage of the journey, not just at the bedside, but across the wider system of support that surrounds people at the end of life.

SDL Car Parts visits Treetops
Julie Slater, People & Culture Director at SDL Car Parts, visited Treetops to present a £3,800 grant in support of the charity’s work. Julie commented, "It was a real pleasure meeting Robin and Scott from Treetops Hospice. They generously took the time to talk me through how the hospice operates, sharing detailed insights into their approach, values, and the vital support they provide. Treetops does not work in the conventional sense of a hospice. Instead of focusing on inpatient care, their work is firmly rooted in the community, supporting people in their own homes and enabling them to spend their final days surrounded by family and friends. In addition to end‑of‑life care, Treetops also provides dedicated counselling services, as well as training and wider support for individuals who are newly diagnosed, helping both patients and their loved ones navigate what can be an incredibly challenging time."
