We recently received an application from one of our members to support My Bag Charity with a £500 championing grant. My Bag is a Nottinghamshire based charity that provides a practical bag of comfort items for every child who enters foster care.
In England, over 32,000 children enter foster care each year, that’s 88 children every day. When children enter the care system, it’s often with very few possessions. My Bag aims to provide every child entering foster care in Nottinghamshire for the first time with a bag full of essentials and another to put their possessions in, to help restore the child’s pride, self esteem, dignity and confidence.
The charity, that works closely with the County Council, also provides ‘My Boxes by My Bag’ for young people aged 16-18 in semi-independent care in Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire. These young people have very little money to live on, so the charity decided to provide a practical box four times a year to help that includes a food products, useful household essentials, hygiene and sanitary products.
