In December 2020, we received a championing application to support Hull & East Yorkshire Children’s University, a local Hull based charity that provides unique and sometimes life changing experiences to children who are growing up in areas of disadvantage.
Many children grow up having never ventured much further than their own street and never get the opportunity to discover their own special talents and interests. Some of them spend their childhood never having a dream. HEY Children’s University gives children the chance to dream.
During 2020, the charity was unable to hold fundraising events in due to the pandemic and this meant that they took a huge hit financially. Yet, the effects of the pandemic also mean that many more children are living in poverty.
Throughout the pandemic, HEY Children’s University continued their vital work, and although they couldn’t carry out their usual experience days, they continued to support children in the region by fundraising for, sourcing and delivering laptops, tablets, and WiFi dongles to help ensure children could access learning at home as well as providing educational and mental health materials to support their wellbeing.
