Supporting Downright Special with £500 Donation

The Matthew Good Foundation is delighted to support Downright Special with a £500 donation, following a nomination from one of the John Good Group’s Matthew Good Foundation representatives, Joanne Dayes.

Downright Special is a charity in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire supporting children with Down syndrome. Managed by a small team of professionally trained volunteers and staff, the charity supports families and professionals in all aspects of the care and education of children with the condition.

Downright Special’s aim is simple:

To build a brighter future for children with Down syndrome, supporting them to achieve their full potential and promoting successful inclusion in all aspects of life.

Downright Special has supported Joanne’s cousin Jessica, who has Down Syndrome. Seeing the impact for herself, Joanne has an insight into the charity’s vital work and the difference it makes to the people and families they support.

In the current situation, Downright Special continues to provide support and advice to families. From providing resources for the children to do at home education sessions via Zoom to online singing and signing sessions. The charity is also supporting schools and nurseries to differentiate work for the children to do at home and also when they return back to school.

Unfortunately, due to the current restrictions, we were unable to visit the team to hand over our donation, but here is a photo of Joanne when she visited Downright Special last year. We look forward to being able to visit the team at Downright Special in the future.
