The Clothing Bank

The Clothing Bank was set up in January 2020 when Sally and Susan realised there were people struggling to clothe themselves and didn’t know where to go for help. Two years later and they now have 80 drop off points around Yorkshire where they collect pre-loved clothing that is sorted and given to people in need.

The Clothing Bank supports anyone who is in need of help. They aim to provide seven days of clothing plus seven days of new underwear to people who are struggling.

From people fleeing domestic abuse, to those who have been made redundant as well as people who are working but after everyday expenses can’t afford to purchase clothing, The Clothing Bank works with students, the homeless, the elderly, families and anyone who needs support. They work closely with organisations such as IDAS, social services, schools, colleges and saviours trust, just to name a few.

On The Clothing Bank Facebook page, they have a strong following of 42,000 people. They use this to put appeals out for pre-loved clothing and to fundraise. They have formed an online community that people feel proud to be part of, a sense of coming together and doing good.

The Clothing Bank believes that everyone deserves the right to be able to have good quality clothing and this in itself helps people to feel accepted, have confidence and helps them move on in life. Once under The Clothing Banks’ wing, they are always there to support them. People can message The Clothing Bank through private messenger telephone or email, everything is dealt with in a friendly and professional, confidential manner.

Funding from the Mathew Good Foundation will be used to purchase items that they don’t typically get donated such as leggings, joggers and underwear. It will also mean they will be able to post items out to referrals further afield.

“It is absolutely amazing to be shortlisted to receive a Grants for Good. Thank you for seeing what we are achieving and can achieve in the future. With your funding we can support more people and post items out to those further afield, further growing the clothing bank community.”

The Clothing Bank

“The Clothing Bank and their team are unbelievably giving and work so hard to provide to their families in order to give the families hope. Staffed by volunteers and with a growing network of volunteer drop off locations, I was blown away with the work Sally, Susan and their team do for the community and individuals. They go way beyond the donation of clothing, and offer much needed support to people when they are at their most vulnerable.”
