Pathways was established in response to the growing needs of people experiencing homelessness in Chesterfield. Its origins trace back to 2001, when local churches set up a soup kitchen for those without homes. Over the following years, the initiative evolved into a fully constituted charity, opening its first premises in 2006. Pathways has since moved and expanded through several locations, developing services to meet the changing needs of local people. Today, they operate across two buildings, with spaces for appointments, social and group activities, and partnerships with local services.
Ousing support is at the heart of Pathways’ work. The team provides advice, helps clients explore housing options, and offers tenancy support to maintain long-term accommodation. Specialist nurses are also on hand to address both mental and physical health needs faced by people experiencing homelessness. Services include access to a dentist and optician, alongside practical provisions like clothing, food, and toiletries.
Through practical assistance, advocacy, and encouragement, Pathways empowers people to set their own goals and build the skills needed to move forward, breaking cycles of homelessness and promoting dignity, stability, and hope for local people.
