Jubilee Life College is a community-centred initiative from Jubilee Church Hull, created to empower adults who are often overlooked – including people facing mental health challenges, long-term unemployment, learning differences, or a history of offending. Since launching in 2014, the College has supported individuals to thrive through informal, learner-led courses that help build confidence, social connections and practical life skills.

Running across three 10-week terms each year, the programme is completely free to attend and is delivered from three neighbourhood venues in Hull: Jubilee Central, Orchard Centre in North Hull, and Cecil Gardens in West Hull. Courses range from creative crafts, photography and cooking to fitness, recovery groups, board games and life-skills sessions – offering a wide, inclusive and welcoming learning environment.

The impact is powerful. In 2021/22, 82% of learners reported improved self-esteem, with 68% saying they felt more confident and optimistic about their future. Many participants go on to further learning, volunteering or paid work. One learner shared how Life College helped them overcome anxiety and isolation, while another credited it with supporting their mobility and mental wellbeing.

To help shine a light on this incredible work, we funded a short film about Jubilee Life College – raising awareness of its impact and helping attract vital support to ensure the project continues changing lives across Hull.
