Back in March this year, we shared details about a £1,000 donation we made to the Friends of Mires Beck Nursery via a Championing Grant.
John Rutherford, the John Good Group’s Deputy Chairman, nominated The Friends of Mires Beck Nursery to receive the funding to help them produce a herb recipe book. Sales of the book will raise funds for the new Mires Beck Community Building that will provide vital new facilities for adults with complex and additional needs. The exciting development will see a new building and sensory room and provide a bigger work and recreation space than can be used for other on-site activities as well as other community groups.
Like many charities, Mires Beck is having a difficult time, so we were delighted to receive an update to confirm that sales of the book have already raised £1,400!
Featuring recipes that use the various herbs grown at the Nursery, it makes an ideal gift, and at just £7 or £8.70 including postage, it’s an excellent buy especially as all funds go to a great cause.
Shelagh Devereux, a member of The Friends of Mires Beck, said;
“We’re enormously grateful for the help from The Matthew Good Foundation which has enabled us to support the service users as well as the Nursery at a challenging time. Book sales so far have raised over £1,400 for Mires Beck, which is terrific; however, we have been amazed by the generosity of our customers, who are often donating more than the recommended amount. With our other activities, linked to the recipe book and additional donations, we’ve raised almost £3,000 so far, which is terrific!”
The recipes in the book feature the various herbs grown at the Nursery and include:
- Soups and Starters
- Fish
- Meat & Poultry
- Vegetarian/Meat Free
- Cakes & Desserts
- Side Dishes and Sauces
- Drinks (Recipes and Tips)
As well as the fantastic recipes the book, titled, Simply Herbs, also provides tips on which herbs to grow to attract different species of wildlife. For example, Hyssop is one of the best for butterflies, and it’s blue flowers also attract bees. Mint, if allowed to flower, will attract bees in great numbers and Finches will also feed on the seeds if left.
The recipe book is a lovely gift, and an innovative way to raise funds. We’re so pleased to have played a small part in the publication of the book that will continue to raise funds for a brilliant local charity.
