One of the ways our members can support their community is by applying to the Foundation for a Championing Grant. Given the current COVID-19 pandemic, we’re encouraging our members to apply to support charities or community projects that need support during this difficult time.
Two of our members applied to champion local charity, Hull Women’s Aid (HWA) and we were pleased to provide a championing grant of £1,000 to help them continue their vital work at a time when they are experiencing an increase in demand for their support.
HWA is the sole provider of safe and secure refuge accommodation on the north bank of the Humber for women and children fleeing domestic abuse. As soon as the lockdown was introduced HWA had an increase in calls from women suffering from domestic abuse. Abuse in its many forms such as coercion, manipulation, financial control and physical violence has escalated and HWA’s help has never been in such demand.
Our donation will help HWA continue to support women and children living with or fleeing from domestic abuse, ensuring they have someone to turn to.
HWA provides a 24-hour helpline (detailed below), they can also be contacted by email and live web chat.
