One of our members, Kelly White, recently nominated Curtain Up Productions to receive a £1,000 championing grant to help them run a children’s school next year. As well as working for Good Logistics in Hull, Kelly is a volunteer at the small charity amateur theatre group in Grimsby and Cleethorpes that has been running for over 100 years.
In the summer of 2019, the charity ran its first summer school for children. Unfortunately, due to the impact of the pandemic, they haven’t been able to run one this year.
The summer school gives local children the opportunity to learn all about musical theatre, learn a script, dance routines and songs for a Musical in one week and then perform 2 shows at the end of that week to their family and friends.
Kelly told us that the two-week programme includes children from a variety of different backgrounds, helps build confidence in the children that attend, they make new friends and have the opportunity to perform to family and friends which further increases their confidence
Caroline Wright of Curtain Up Productions said; “Thank you so much for your very kind and generous donation. Curtain Up Productions is an amateur musical theatre society that has been entertaining in and around the local community for over 100 years, we are a Registered Charity and as I’m sure you will appreciate the cost of keeping the Society running becomes harder every year, so your donation will make such a difference to us. Your very generous support will now allow us to take our plans for the summer school forward.”
