We are Finalists at the Business Charity Awards!

At the John Good Group and Matthew Good Foundation, we’re over the moon to have been shortlisted for the Corporate Foundation Award at the Third Sector Business Charity Awards for our innovative approach to corporate philanthropy, alongside a prestigious list of other charities and businesses.

Business Charity Awards - Corporate Foundation 2025

We’re pleased to share that John Good Group and the Matthew Good Foundation have been named finalists for the Corporate Foundation Award at the Third Sector Business Charity Awards. This recognition means a great deal to us, reflecting the support we’ve been privileged to offer the charity sector since 2011.

First and foremost, thank you to Sailors’ Children’s Society for nominating us. The charity has been supporting the children of seafarers facing hardship for over 200 years, providing practical and emotional support, including financial grants, respite breaks, and more. We’re truly grateful for the nomination and for the opportunity to support their work.

“The Matthew Good Foundation is completely different to any other foundation we have worked with. Their support has been far-reaching and covered so many layers. The foundation first started supporting us by funding a promotional film to help with our fundraising efforts. They then raised £20,000 for us through the Bridge2Bridge Challenge, an event they have now gifted to our charity to grow further.

John Good Group have generously provided office space for 18 months while we secured a new building, and their CEO has become a mentor to me. The whole John Good Group family has welcomed Sailors’ Children’s Society into their own, and we couldn’t be more grateful. They truly are a force for good.”

Natasha Barley – CEO, Sailors’ Children’s Society

The Matthew Good Foundation, established in memory of Matthew Good, was created to blend the success of a sixth-generation family business with a genuine commitment to making a positive difference. Since 2011, the John Good Group has dedicated a portion of its profits each year, ensuring that employees play a key role in deciding where funds go, leading initiatives, and actively participating in giving programmes. What started as a way to involve employees in charitable work has grown into a model that inspires other businesses to embrace high-impact CSR.

The Foundation’s five-year strategy is all about helping small, high-impact charities that often miss out on funding. It goes beyond just giving financial support in the form of unrestricted grants — it also provides guidance and resources, such as helping with communications projects, connecting charities to community volunteering opportunities, and offering pro-bono professional help. By offering these kinds of resources, the Foundation helps John Good Group and other businesses build deeper, more sustainable relationships with the causes they support.

We’re delighted that our approach has been recognised by the Business Charity Awards. We hope this brings attention to the importance of grassroots-led corporate social responsibility and its power to drive real, positive change.

We’re looking forward to the awards evening on Thursday, 8th May, and to celebrating alongside other inspiring organisations. To see all the finalists, click here to visit the Business Charity Awards website.
