The Brick

Across the UK, rising levels of poverty, homelessness and hardship are placing growing pressure on frontline services. Charities like The Brick are stepping in to meet these challenges with practical, community-based support. Based in Wigan, they offer help to people experiencing homelessness, financial crisis or trauma — while also working to influence the wider systems that shape people’s lives. Their work responds to both urgent needs and the root causes of poverty.

The Brick is a Wigan-based charity supporting people who are homeless, in poverty, or facing crisis. Their services provide immediate help with essentials like food and shelter, while also focusing on long-term recovery – helping people rebuild their lives through housing, wellbeing support, training, and employment opportunities.

In 2024, The Brick took a major step forward by purchasing and managing its own homes. With 15 self-contained flats (including two that are fully accessible) and three houses already secured, they aim to accommodate up to 140 individuals each night by September 2025.

Their model combines secure housing with intensive, personalised support – recognising that a stable home is the foundation for lasting change. Alongside frontline services, The Brick continues to speak out on the structural issues that drive homelessness and poverty, advocating for fairer systems and more inclusive policies.

Rooted in the local community, The Brick is focused not just on providing a place to stay, but on helping people thrive.

We partnered with The Brick to fund a short film that brings their work to life. Created through our Amplify Charity Films programme, the film shares real experiences and highlights their unique approach. We hope it will reach new audiences and inspire further support for their vital work.
