Hornsea First Aid Centre

In 2018, Hornsea lost its Minor Injuries Unit. For a town without quick access to urgent care, this left a real gap. So, the community decided to fill it themselves, and Hornsea First Aid Centre was born. A local church funded a portacabin, the supermarket offered space in its car park, and dozens of volunteers came together to get the doors open. By June 2018, the centre was running with around 30 volunteers and qualified First Aiders.

In its first year alone, the centre saw almost 800 patients. Today, it continues to provide free, accessible first aid to anyone who needs it, treating everything from minor burns and bites to bumps, cuts and allergic reactions. If a visitor needs care beyond what the team can safely provide, they’re referred on.

Every First Aider at the centre is a volunteer, and the service relies entirely on grants, donations and community fundraising to keep running. Local supporters and donors have kept the centre’s doors open for years, even through the pandemic.

Beyond treating injuries, the team also supports local events across Hornsea and offers first aid training to community groups and students on work experience. The centre believes first aid is a humanitarian act, and that it should be accessible to everyone, everywhere, without exception.

We met the charity as part of the 2025 Time2Volunteer Awards, when Rosie Bullard – a key figure behind the founding of the First Aid Centre – was given a Special Recognition Award in October 2025.
