Reel Creative is a digital training charity designed to cater for children in Hull from a multitude of backgrounds. They strongly believe that promoting technological literacy is key for all local children, regardless of their background, to help them navigate an increasingly technology-driven world and obtain the most positive outcomes possible.

By democratising access to professional-grade equipment, Reel Creative bridges the gap for those who might not have had the privilege of such opportunities in the past.

The mission of Reel Creative is to spark the innate creativity that resides within their learners. Through carefully curated courses and experiences, they aim to kindle imagination, foster self-confidence, and instil a broad spectrum of new skills that empowers local learners in an increasingly digital era.

The knowledge of the team at Reel Creative spans a wide range of digital media: from learning the art of video production and podcasting, to diving into the world of filmmaking; from practicing the skills required to create engaging animations, to mastering the concepts behind graphic design, and experimenting with AI.

All of these practical, immersive experiences are delivered in a state-of-the-art professional film studio located on Clough Road in Hull.

A grant from the Matthew Good Foundation will enable Reel Creative to purchase resources such as cameras, laptops, tablets, and essential software subscriptions, levelling the playing field for those who may not otherwise have access to these critical tools.

“At the heart of our mission lies the profound desire to bridge the digital divide, empowering young individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. Often, these youth remain in the peripheries, having limited or no access to the technological tools that many of us take for granted. With your support, we aim to change that narrative.

Every camera and tablet we buy, every software we subscribe to, and every laptop we distribute serves as a testament to our shared vision: a world where every young individual, irrespective of their socio-economic background, can access and thrive in the digital realm.”

Reel Creative

This newly registered charity, founded by two brothers who work in the creative industry in Hull, seeks to provide young people with digital skills and inspire them towards creative careers. Their understanding of the challenges faced by children and young people in Hull fuels their commitment to providing opportunities and raising aspirations. They are already partnering with HEY Children’s University to organise school trips for primary school children in disadvantaged areas, and have ambitions to expand their offerings to older children, and to have a mobile studio that can visit schools and engage in community outreach.
