I recently applied to the Foundation myself supporting a group of writers and artists helping to preserve folklore tales in remote regions of Cameroon. These tales, which are centuries old and handed down through the generations, tell of exciting adventures of jungle animals! They contain important life lessons for their children and preserve customs, values and their way of life.
With Western influences and increasing pressures on opportunities for younger generations, these tales are in danger of being lost forever. The group plan to work with the Elders of the region to immortalise these folklores in print with exciting illustrations. The books will then be given, for free, to the villages and schools of the region.
As a Foundation we could only donate £500 but if you’re interested you can also support the project and also get a copy of the book via Crowd Funding. They are currently 2/3rds of the way to their goal of £11,500 needed. You can read more and watch a video here:
