In January Paul Ferguson took part in the Touch Guy Challenge – Billed as the safest most dangerous event in the world… ‘Winter
Tough Guy’ is an annual event and the 1st of its kind in the UK, attracting competitors from around the globe
More information on this gruelling event can be found on their website as per the link below;
Paul managed to raise GBP 750.00 for The Christie – This amount has been match funded by the foundation bringing the total amount to GBP 1500.00
A fantastic acheievement especially if you read an extract from Paul below of exactly what the event entailed…
” I was raising money for The Christie who have been providing pioneering cancer research breakthroughs for 100yrs & is the largest cancer centre in Europe
Staged over a 10km cross country course and finishing with a 5km obstacle course aptly named ‘The Killing Fields’ we experienced knee deep mud, 40ft cargo net climbs, beams, electric fields(helped take your mind off the cold), underground chambers & tunnels, some submerged in freezing water(claustrophobic), barbed wire crawl, burning hay bales, and approx 25 water based obstacles with 4inch thick ice at the start of the race, brain freeze like nothing I have ever felt before with a reported 500 competitors succumbing to the cold with hypothermia as a result of the -10 degree water temperatures, this included some of the safety divers in dry suits which lead ultimately to the course being closed off to the tail runners!!
Without doubt the toughest thing I have done and no amount of training could prepare you for the cold!!
5034 Entered 4359 Started 590 Didn’t Turn Up 3650ish finished!! Not sure I will be rushing for the start line next year 🙂 ”
